Extremist Ben Gvir Reduces Family Visits to Palestinian Prisoners

The extremist Israeli ‘National Security’ Minister Itamar Ben Gvir decided Friday, September 1, to reduce family visits to Palestinian prisoners to once every two months after it was once every month.

Ben Gvir has ordered the Israeli prison administration to reduce family visits to “security” prisoners to once every two months, which will be implemented next Sunday, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

It said the decision would be applied to 1,600 prisoners out of 5,000 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.

Ben Gvir reportedly took this decision without coordination with the security authorities, ignoring the rejection of the Prison Administration Commissioner Katia Perry, who warned him of the repercussions of such a step on the conditions inside and outside the prisons.

Perry called for holding a cabinet session to reconsider this decision, as security prisoners have a prominent position in the Palestinian society, which will greatly affect the prison administration.

In response, the Red Cross Organization strongly opposed the decision and said it would take legal action in international courts if the prisoners’ rights were violated.

“Ben Gvir will inflame the situation and put Israeli lives at risk in order to gain legitimacy among the settlers, said a senior Israeli security official.

The official expressed his fear that things would flare up in the prisons and Palestinian prisoners would attack members of the prison administration and announced a hunger strike.

Despite that, Ben Gvir stressed to the newspaper that he ordered the prison administration to apply this decision.

“It’s my policy and I have been elected to do so, and I will apply it. My decisions will anger the prisoners, but they were taken after I studied the issues,” said Ben Gvir.

However, the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees and Ex-detainees stated that Ben Gvir’s decision is a flagrant violation of the prisoners’ human rights, by which he attempts to hide the crises of the current fascist government and please the settlers.

The ministry called on international human rights organizations to urgently take legal action against this decision, which is a flagrant violation of international law, and stop Israeli attacks on Palestinian prisoners.
