Palestinian Girl Makes History at Asian Games

On Thursday, October 5th, 2023, Palestinian athlete Hala Al-Qadi, 22, made history by securing a kumite 68kg Bronze Medal at the Asian Games 2023, marking Palestine’s first Asian Games medal since 2002.

The match took place in the Chinese city of Hangzhou as part of the Asian Games, which began on September 23rd, 2023.

Al-Qadi clinched the championship after defeating her Chinese Taipei karate opponent Chao Jou 6-3 on the sport’s opening day.

Earlier in July, Al-Qadi won the Silver Medal over her participation in the Pan Arab Games in Algeria as she was preparing for the final competition, according to the Palestinian news agency, WAFA.

Raising the Palestinian flag, Al-Qadi dedicated her victory to the Palestinian people, her family, and the Palestine Olympic Committee, concluding “My people deserve to live in peace and achieve all their dreams far away from the conflicts.’

Previously, Palestine’s Taekwondo team player, Omar Hantouli, also defeated his Laotian counterpart and reached the quarter-finals of the Masters in the 19th Asian Games 2023.

Palestine Olympic delegation taking part in the Asian games consists of 70 persons who represent 16 individual and team games, marking the largest participation in Palestine’s external history.
