Israeli Violations in Isawiya

Isawiya, a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood located in East Jerusalem,  has been at the center of ongoing tensions and human rights concerns due to Israeli violations. Isawiya faces significant access challenges due to its proximity to Jewish settlements and Israeli-controlled areas in East Jerusalem. Roadblocks, checkpoints, and the apartheid wall have created difficulties for residents in terms of mobility and access to basic services.

Israel annexed East Jerusalem following the 1967 Six-Day War, a move not recognized by the international community. This annexation has had significant implications for the legal status and rights of the Palestinian people.

Isawiya has attracted international attention due to the ongoing human rights violations in the area. Various human rights organizations and the United Nations have documented and expressed concerns about these Israeli violations.

Home Demolitions
Israeli authorities have frequently demolished Palestinian homes in Isawiya, citing reasons such as lack of permits. However, obtaining permits for Palestinians in East Jerusalem is notoriously difficult, leading to forced displacements and a loss of livelihoods for many families.

Restriction of Movement

The construction of checkpoints, barriers, and road closures in and around Isawiya has severely restricted the movement of residents. This has hindered access to schools, healthcare facilities, and employment opportunities, exacerbating the socio-economic challenges faced by the community.

Harassment and Arrests
People of Isawiya have reported frequent harassment by Israeli occupation forces. This includes arbitrary arrests, detentions, and the use of excessive force during protests and raids. Such actions have raised concerns about human rights abuses and violations of international law.

Education Disruptions
Israeli authorities have disrupted the education of Isawiya’s youth through school closures, raids on educational institutions, and harassment of students. These actions have not only impeded access to quality education but also had a lasting psychological impact on the children.

Healthcare Access
Access to healthcare services in Isawiya has been severely compromised due to restrictions on movement and the presence of checkpoints. Patients often face delays in reaching hospitals, resulting in critical health consequences.

Settler Violence
Isawiya is located near Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem, leading to frequent incidents of settler violence against Palestinian residents. This violence includes physical assaults, property damage, and intimidation, further exacerbating tensions in the area.
