Dozens of Israeli settlers took over a Palestinian residence near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, located in the southern West Bank, on Friday, September 15, 2023.

A video recording from the scene depicts a group of settlers gathered in front of the entrance to the home, accompanied by chants in Hebrew.

The Israeli occupation forces, in conjunction with these settlers, committed a total of 3,180 violations against Palestinians in cities across the West Bank and Jerusalem during the past month of August, according to statistics published by the Palestinian Information Center, known as “Maa’th.”

Of particular note is Hebron, which ranks as the second most affected city during this period, with a staggering 464 recorded violations.

This recent incident near the Ibrahimi Mosque raises further concerns about the ongoing tensions and provocations in the region.

Assaults Against Hebron

Hebron, home to 200,000 residents, also accommodates about 800 Israeli settlers residing in seven outposts. Among these settlements, Father’s Hill stands out as a hub for some of the most extreme settlers in the West Bank.

Notable figures among them include National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Baruch Marzel, the leader of the extremist Jewish movement Kach, and Noam Friedman, another prominent member of Kach.

In April, there was a sharp increase in incidents involving Israeli forces and settlers targeting Palestinian properties in Hebron.

These assaults included the demolition of five Palestinian shops, and the Israeli forces compelling several shop owners to evacuate and hand over their buildings to settlers.

Human rights activists have raised concerns that by May 2023, roughly seventy buildings in Hebron, which have served as homes and places of residence for Palestinians for many decades, could face confiscation, with ownership transferring to Israeli settlers in the city.
