In a heart-wrenching scene that unfolded today, Al-Samou’ Secondary Girls School in the town of al-Samou, nestled in the southern region of Hebron, became a battleground of tears and fear. Dozens of young female students found themselves gasping for breath as Israeli occupation forces unleashed a barrage of tear gas canisters upon their school during an Israeli military incursion.

The attack, which has sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters, has once again highlighted the longstanding tension in the region, particularly concerning the safety of Palestinian students and the sanctity of educational institutions.

The Directorate of Education in southern Hebron swiftly issued a statement denouncing the attack, asserting that Israeli occupation forces had fired tear gas canisters directly at the school, leading to the suffocation of dozens of students. Several students were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Yasser Saleh, the Director of Education in the South of Hebron, expressed his outrage at the Israeli occupation’s actions, which he described as “vicious attacks” and “subversive actions” against schools. Saleh emphasized that such actions were part of a broader pattern of ongoing violations against educational institutions, which blatantly disregarded international norms and instruments that guaranteed the inviolability of schools and children’s right to education.

The Palestinian Ministry of Education has demanded accountability for the attack and called on the international community to intervene to protect Palestinian students and educational facilities from further harm.

It’s essential to remember that this Israeli attack is not an isolated occurrence. It painfully echoes a long history of Israeli occupation forces targeting Palestinian students and schools, leaving behind a trail of shattered dreams and lost opportunities.
