Israeli Aggression Forces 74k Gazans into UNRWA Schools

74,000 Palestinians have been forced to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in schools operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

UNRWA issued a statement on Monday, October 10, 2023, confirming that 74,000 Palestinians have sought shelter in 64 UNRWA-managed schools and shelters within Gaza, all due to the ongoing Israeli aggression.

Schools Under Fire

The agency also reported a distressing incident in which one of its schools, housing displaced families, bore the direct brunt of Israeli airstrikes.

The resulting damage has left the facility unusable, despite having provided refuge to more than 225 individuals.

UNRWA remains deeply apprehensive about the possibility of an escalating count of displaced individuals as the relentless bombardment and aerial attacks show no signs of relenting.

To alleviate this crisis, UNRWA has swiftly deployed teams to provide families with shelter and access to clean water, with preparations underway to distribute additional supplies to those in need.

Calls for Protection

In its official statement, UNRWA urgently called for the safeguarding of civilians at all times and an immediate ceasefire.

Furthermore, the agency appealed for the protection of civilian infrastructure, including schools that are providing sanctuary for families displaced by the ongoing attacks.

The death toll from the Israeli aggression on Gaza has now climbed to 436 individuals, comprising 78 children and 61 women.

In addition to these casualties, an alarming 2,300 individuals, including children and women, have sustained injuries.
