591 Settlements-Related Incidents in Occupied Palestinian Lands in 1st Half of 2023
Israeli settlers’ crimes against the Palestinian people in Occupied Palestinian lands reached 591 in the first six months of 2023, the UN stated on Friday,4 August 2023.
“That’s an average of 99 incidents every month and a 39 percent increase compared with the monthly average of the whole of 2022, which is 71,” said Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) at a UN briefing in Geneva.
He highlighted that Palestinian communities who rely on herding are particularly vulnerable, saying that, in the last two years, at least 399 people were forcibly displaced due to settler violence targeting seven communities engaged in herding across the Occupied Palestinian lands.
Numerous communities throughout the West Bank are threatened by forced displacement due to a coercive environment created by demolitions, settlement activities, and other harmful practices.
Israeli settlers’ attacks have escalated recently against the Palestinian citizens and their lands including attacking the Palestinian shepherds, preventing them from reaching their lands.
More than 650,000 colonial settlers were distributed among 164 illegal settlements and 124 outposts built on the stolen lands of occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
The West Bank and Jerusalem lands are occupied territories based on International law due to this all Israeli settlement-building activities there are illegal.
